Please watch this if you have purchased a new hammer rod, and need to reassemble your equipment.

Important information about protecting your slurry connection:

The Wildcat hammer shell on the hammer rod

This is a picture of your assembled WILDCAT DCP hammer shell on the hammer rod.

At the top of the hammer rod, hidden by the red hammer shell, is the silver anvil that regulates the hammer drop. When the hammer is lifted, it can not be lifted higher than the anvil. When it is dropped, it’s drop will be limited by the anvil. Therefore, the hammer itself (35 pounds) should never meet the slurry port/steel nipple/tubing set-up (circled in green.)

However, when the operator is removing the hammer shell to add additional 1-meter rods, or to finish up work for the day, he/she will have to unscrew the hammer lid (circle in blue.) The hammer lid will then drop against the steel nipple/tubing set-up and can (rarely) shear off the nipple. Therefore, we have added a small cylinder of foam and 2 O-rings to the hammer rod between the hammer lid and the nipple. Now, when the hammer lid falls, the foam will take its impact, and the foam’s sliding will be prevented by the O-rings.
